CCTV pricing in Kerala ranges enormously, and the cheapest quote is rarely the cheapest system to own. The difference usually isn't the camera on the wall — it's what you can't see: the storage, the warranty, and whether the whole thing actually records reliably.

Here's what CCTV really costs — for a home or a business — and where the money goes.

What determines the price

Four things drive most of the cost:

1. The cameras — resolution and type (HD analog vs IP) and how many you need.
2. The recorder and storage — a DVR or NVR plus a hard drive sized for how many days of footage you want to keep.
3. Installation — cabling, mounting, and configuration, which depends on your building.
4. Remote viewing and extras — mobile app setup, night vision, and any alerts.

A quote that looks cheap has usually economised on one of these — most often storage retention or genuine, warrantied cameras.

Camera types and rough prices

HD analog cameras (2MP–5MP): the budget-friendly workhorse. Good general coverage for a shop or small office. Lower per-camera cost, runs on coaxial cabling to a DVR.

IP cameras (4MP and up): sharper footage — enough to read a face or a number plate — with smarter features like motion zones. Higher per-camera cost, runs over network cabling (PoE) to an NVR. Worth it where detail actually matters: entrances, tills, gates.

• Undersized storage — a drive that only holds three or four days of footage is useless if you check a week later.
• Half-configured remote viewing — "you can see it on your phone" often means it worked once, on the installer's phone, and was never set up on yours.
• No dedicated network — IP cameras dumped onto your business network can slow it down; they belong on their own isolated segment.

Ongoing costs

The cameras run on your power and network — no subscription. The optional ongoing cost is maintenance: an AMC that checks camera health, recording, and storage on a schedule, plus eventual hard-drive replacement (drives recording 24/7 wear out over a few years). It's cheap insurance against the worst outcome — discovering the system stopped recording weeks before the day you needed it.
