Automatic gate price in Kerala (2026): sliding, swing & roller
What automatic gate installation actually costs in Kerala — real starting prices for sliding, swing and roller gate automation, what's included as standard, and the seven things that move the final quote.

"How much does an automatic gate cost?" is the first question we get, and the honest answer has two parts: a real starting price, and the things that move it.
Here are both, for Kerala in 2026.
Starting prices
All prices include GST and cover the motor kit:
| Gate type | Motor | From |
|---|---|---|
| Sliding gate | Standard (AC) | ₹34,000 |
| Sliding gate | Premium (DC) | ₹39,500 |
| Swing gate — single arm | DC | ₹40,000 |
| Swing gate — double arm | DC | ₹44,000 |
| Roller gate (wheel-drive swing) | DC | ₹46,000 |
These are genuine starting points for a standard residential installation, not teaser numbers. What they assume is a gate in reasonable condition, a power point within a sensible cable run, and no civil work.
What's included as standard
This matters more than the headline number, because it's where quotes diverge:
- Safety sensors (photocells) — the beam across the opening that stops the gate if a person, pet or vehicle is in the way.
- Battery backup — the gate keeps working through a power cut.
- 2 remote controls — extra remotes available, and RFID tags/cards as an add-on.
- Installation, wiring and configuration — including setting the force limits and travel properly.
- A free site survey before you commit to anything.
An AMC is available separately. We mention this list early because a quote that's ₹8,000 cheaper has usually dropped one of these items, and the first two are safety features, not luxuries.
The seven things that move the final quote
1. Gate weight and width. The single biggest factor. A motor is specified for the mass it has to move; a 300 kg gate and a 600 kg gate are different machines. Oversizing wastes money, undersizing destroys the motor.
2. Sliding, swing or roller. Different mechanisms, different hardware. (A roller gate is a swing gate driven by wheel motors that roll on the ground — not a rolling shutter.) A double-leaf swing gate needs two motors, synchronised — which is why two-arm pricing sits well above single-arm.
3. Condition of the existing gate. A sliding gate with a bent track or a sagging frame needs that fixed first, or the automation will fight it and fail early. Swing gates need sound hinges and posts.
4. Access method. Two remotes come with the kit. RFID readers with tags or cards are an add-on, quoted after the survey. On a DC motor you can add voice and phone control through a WiFi smart-switch module; AC motors have no such option.
5. Cable runs. Distance from the gate to the power point, and whether cable can be run in existing conduit or needs trenching. This is the item most often underestimated in a cheap quote.
6. Civil work. A sliding gate needs a level track foundation; a boom barrier or gate post may need a concrete base. If that work isn't there, it's part of the job.
7. Duty cycle. A home gate opens a handful of times a day. An apartment or commercial gate may open hundreds. High-use sites need motors rated for it — the cheaper unit will not survive the year.
Where the money actually goes
Roughly, on a standard residential sliding gate: the motor and control board are the largest single line, then safety and access hardware, then installation labour and wiring, then the battery backup. There's no large margin hiding in a correctly specified gate automation job — which is why quotes that undercut heavily are almost always removing hardware rather than discounting it.
Reading a quote properly
Ask for four things in writing:
- The motor's rated gate weight and duty cycle — not just "heavy duty".
- Whether photocells are included, and how many.
- Power-cut behaviour — on a DC motor, whether the two 12V batteries are built in or the ₹5,500 add-on; on an AC motor, whether it will be wired to your inverter connection.
- How cable will be run — surface, conduit, or trenched.
If a quote can't answer those, it isn't a quote yet. Two numbers are only comparable when both describe the same system.
Running costs
Low, and worth knowing before you buy. The motor draws power only while moving, so the electricity cost is negligible. The real ongoing items are the backup battery, which is a wear part and will eventually need replacing, and periodic adjustment — track cleaning, hinge greasing, re-checking sensor alignment and force settings. That's what an AMC covers, and it's the difference between a gate that works in year five and one that was abandoned in year two.
If your concern is specifically the power cuts, we go deeper in automatic gates and power cuts. Still deciding between types, see sliding vs swing gates. If the gate is already standing, start with automating an existing gate.
The bottom line
Budget from ₹34,000 for a sliding gate on an AC motor, ₹39,500 for DC, and from ₹40,000 for a swing gate — all including GST, for the motor kit — then add installation, quoted after the free survey. The quote worth taking is the one that tells you whether the motor is AC or DC and whether a photocell pair is included, not the one that quietly leaves them out.
See our automatic gate installation service for the full specification, or WhatsApp us your gate's width and type and we'll give you a realistic figure, then confirm it with a free site survey. We install across Kottayam, Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha.
